Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains how TrailsTV, LLC uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on the Lake Tahoe Planner at trailstv.com. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website when you visit. They allow the site to remember your actions and preferences over time so you don't have to re-enter them each visit. Cookies can be "session cookies" (deleted when you close your browser) or "persistent cookies" (remain on your device for a set period).
Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, and pixel tags — we use these for the same purposes described in this policy.
2. Cookies We Use
| Cookie / Storage | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| auth_session | Essential | Keeps you signed in to your account | Session / 30 days |
| tier_preference | Essential | Remembers your membership tier (Free, Basic, All Tahoe) | 30 days |
| tahoe_user (sessionStorage) | Functional | Stores your onboarding preferences (activities, season, group type) for the current session | Session |
| trip_data (localStorage) | Functional | Saves your trip itinerary locally if you are not signed in | Until cleared |
| map_prefs | Functional | Remembers your last map filter and sort selections | 7 days |
| _ga, _gid | Analytics | Google Analytics — measures how users interact with the site (anonymized) | 2 years / 24 hrs |
| billing_cycle | Functional | Remembers whether you selected monthly or annual billing | 30 days |
3. Essential Cookies
Essential cookies are strictly necessary for the Service to function. They enable core features like account sign-in and membership tier access. You cannot opt out of essential cookies while using the site — without them the Service cannot operate correctly.
4. Functional Cookies
Functional cookies remember your preferences and settings to improve your experience — such as your last map filter, trip data saved locally, and onboarding selections. They are not strictly necessary but significantly improve usability. You may disable them in your browser settings, though some features may not work as expected.
5. Analytics Cookies
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the Lake Tahoe Planner — which pages are visited, how long users stay, and which features are used most. This data is aggregated and anonymized. We have enabled IP anonymization and do not share individual analytics data with third parties.
You may opt out of Google Analytics across all sites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
6. Third-Party Cookies
When you use OAuth sign-in (Google, Apple, Facebook), those providers may set their own cookies governed by their privacy policies. We do not control third-party cookies. Embedded YouTube videos on activity pages may set cookies from youtube.com if you interact with them.
7. Managing and Disabling Cookies
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Here are links to cookie management instructions for common browsers:
Note that disabling cookies may prevent some features of the Lake Tahoe Planner from working, including staying signed in and saving trip preferences.
To clear locally stored trip data, open your browser's developer tools → Application → Local Storage → trailstv.com, and delete the relevant entries.
8. Do Not Track
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. We currently honor DNT signals by not loading analytics cookies when DNT is enabled. Essential and functional cookies necessary for the Service to operate are unaffected.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. We will post the updated policy with a revised effective date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
