Accessibility
TrailsTV is committed to ensuring the Lake Tahoe Planner is accessible to everyone — including people with visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive disabilities. We are working toward conformance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA as published by the W3C.
What We Have Done
- All images include descriptive alt text for screen readers
- Color contrast ratios meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA minimums (4.5:1 for body text)
- All interactive elements are keyboard navigable
- Form inputs have associated labels for screen reader compatibility
- The site uses semantic HTML landmarks (nav, main, footer)
- Font sizes are set in relative units (rem) respecting browser text size preferences
- The site respects the prefers-reduced-motion media query
- Tab order follows a logical reading sequence throughout the page
Known Limitations
Interactive Maps (Leaflet.js): The Leaflet.js maps have limited keyboard and screen reader support. We are evaluating accessible map alternatives.
YouTube Embeds: Embedded videos rely on YouTube's own accessibility features. Captions are enabled where available.
Live Ticker: The scrolling conditions ticker may be difficult for screen reader users. All ticker data is available in the static Live Conditions panel in the footer.
Emoji in UI: Some UI elements use emoji as visual indicators. We are adding ARIA labels so these are announced correctly by screen readers.
Accessible Campground Information
- Nevada Beach Campground includes ADA-accessible sites — noted in the campground detail panel
- Accessible site information is sourced from Recreation.gov and state park databases
- We encourage users with specific accessibility needs to contact campgrounds directly to confirm current accessible site availability
